The Australian High Commission in Port Vila manages the Australian Government’s presence in Vanuatu. We promote Australia’s interests, facilitate international trade and investment, deliver development assistance, respond to crises and provide services to Australian citizens. The Position
Under general direction, the Senior Visa Processing Officer is responsible for liaison with external and internal stakeholders on moderately complex operational and administrative matters as well as the assessment and/or finalisation of visa applications (including those that are sensitive or complex in nature) under direction and in accordance with priorities identified by the Department.
The Senior Visa Processing Officer completes these duties while undertaking verification activities to ensure the integrity of the migration program. Employees are responsible for delivering results in accordance with their work goals and will demonstrate a high-level of productivity and confidentiality and support the Department of Home Affairs’ commitment to providing good services to internal and external clients consistent with the Department of Home Affairs’ Client Service Charter.
As part of a small team the position will also contribute to the day to day running of the office by assisting with routine administrative and financial functions.
Essential Selection Criteria
► Fluent oral and written English communication skills. Spoken and written Bislama an advantage.
► Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of clients from a variety of backgrounds and with varying demands. Such situations may include: telephone interaction, interviews, liaison and representation, preparing reports and correspondence.
► Ability to respond and adapt to change. Ability to apply initiative, flexibility and willingness to pursue continued improvement in the context of change within the organisation.
► Highly developed time management skills, both individually and as part of a team, and the ability to work effectively, cooperatively and flexibly in a team environment to respond to priorities and meet deadlines.
Desirable Selection Criteria
► Experience in application processing environment and decision making.
► Experience in office administration.
► Proficiency in computer software applications including Microsoft Word and Excel, and the capacity to learn new systems.
