The Organisation
Save the Children is an international organization working to uphold children’s rights and protection in different regions of the world, including the Pacific. In Vanuatu, Save the Children has been working with communities and the government since 1984 across a range of thematic areas including education, health, child protection, disaster preparedness, risk reduction, response, recovery, and climate change adaptation.
The Position
The Safe School Officer will work in Save the Children’s Safe Schools program. Safe Schools is an all-inclusive, all-hazards approach to keep children safe in and around schools. The main component of the Safe Schools Program in Vanuatu is to strengthen national and subnational government policies and systems, improve school safety management and enhance the knowledge, skills, and behaviours of teachers and children on school safety. The Safe School Officer will work through existing the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) systems to perform tasks promoting school safety, including, building capacity of school to comply with the government’s Harmonized Minimum Quality Standard for education, specifically focusing on Safe Schools measures, and ensuring quality delivery of safe schools program activities to achieve national-level impact. This position will work directly with School Inspection Officers supporting schools across Shefa, Penama and Sanma provinces, monitoring the engagement of Safe Schools’ interventions.
There are 3 opportunities available in the 3 provinces. Each Safe School Officer will report directly to the Provincial Education Officer and Save the Children Field Manager. The position is full time.
Essential Selection Criteria
► University degree is required.
► Minimum two (2) years of experience in a relevant position.
► Broad working experience in Vanuatu, specially working with the MoET.
► Fluency in Bislama and English.
► Able to work proficiently with Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
► Excellent reporting skills.
► Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work successfully with a wide range of people.
