We’ve been working in Vanuatu for more than 25 years supporting the community in areas of health, community education and training, community development, water supply resource development, pre-school education and direct promotion of children’s rights.


The Position

The Recovery Manager will oversee and manage all aspects of Save the Children’s TC Judy and Kevin recovery efforts. The successful candidate will work closely with stakeholders, including local governments, NGOs, and communities, to implement effective recovery strategies and project activities that support the needs of disaster-affected populations. The Recovery Manager will also work to build the organization's capacity in disaster recovery by developing and implementing training programs, best practices, and other initiatives. The Recovery Manager will oversee all grants under Save the Children’s Recovery work, in charge of setting plans, staff recruitment, and procurement.

Save the Children's Recovery Plan includes the following:

- Sub-granting for local organisations to deliver psycho-social support in affected communities

- Establishing of Mobile Health and Protection Units (with Vanuatu Government and local organisations) to deliver recovery services in remote affected communities

- Delivery of CASH and Voucher Assistance (CVA) for affected communities, in line with Government of Vanuatu plans

- Review of emergency preparedness and response efforts from TC Judy and Kevin

- Supporting new and innovative modalities for response and recovery work, including through anticipatory action


Essential Selection Criteria

► Proven project management skills and strategic planning skills

► Demonstrated experience in budget management and leading assessment activities and of designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating protection programs for international NGOs

► An in-depth understanding of national and international development issues, especially with respect to child protection and child participation

► Demonstrated leadership skills and including the proven ability to be part of and organise, support team

► Strong interpersonal, oral and especially written communication skills, ability to influence and negotiate with a range of diverse stakeholders, and excellent presentation skills including strong public speaking skills and experience


Desirable Selection Criteria

► Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, determine priorities, take initiative, maintain high levels of self-motivation, work as part of a team and independently as and when required, and in multi-cultural settings

► Experience working, coordinating and collaborating with partners and key stakeholders including children, parents, community health workers, teachers, local and national authorities, I/NGOs CSOs, the UN and the corporate sector

► Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including a sound understanding of, and experience in, the child rights-based and strength-based programming approach to development

► Fluency in written and spoken English and high levels of computer proficiency including MS Office suite packages
