The Organisation
The Vanuatu Roads for Development Program Phase 2 (R4D2) is funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to support the Public Works Department (PWD) under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU). R4D2 commenced in June 2019 and will run to the end of June 2024, Adam Smith International (ASI) is the managing contractor for this program.
The Position
The responsibility of the Engineering Officer is to work closely with the R4D2 advisers and provide technical assistance and support to the R4D2 funded road activities within PWD. This will include, but not limited to;
- Assist in road works activity planning, scoping, designing, costing, contract documentation, implementation, time/cost/quality control, and completion in all six divisional offices.
- Ensure works adhere to the PWD Roads and Bridges Design Guide, Standards, Specifications, and ensure climate change and disaster resilience, environment, and safety considerations are addressed.
- Prepare new workplans and workplan revisions.
- Provide support to R4D2 Engineering Advisers as requested.
- Support R4D2 in ensuring safeguard requirements such as GEDSI, Work Place Health & Safety (WHS), and Environmental Safeguards are implemented.
- Other duties as assigned by the Senior Engineering Adviser and/or Team Leader.
Essential Selection Criteria
► Tertiary qualification in Project Manager, Engineering or related field
► A minimum 3 years' experience within engineering.
► Knowledge and understanding of road construction activities
► Knowledge and understanding of tender and contract documentation
► Vanuatu citizen
Desirable Selection Criteria
► Understanding of and commitment to Australian aid safeguard issues, specifically child protection, gender mainstreaming, and disability inclusion
► Understanding of safety and environmental protection on the road programs
