The Organisation

The Vanuatu Christian Council is the lead in-country agency for the Church Agencies Network Disaster Operations (CAN DO), which is one of the six Australian Humanitarian Partnership (AHP) partners in Vanuatu. Under the AHP Disaster READY program, VCC currently implements a disaster preparedness and disaster management project coordinated across churches in Efate, SANMA, MALAMPA and PENAMA Provinces.


The Position

The Project Manager, with support from the AfP Country Program Coordinator, and Vanuatu Christian Council Management Team, will oversee the work and deliverables for all components. The project manager will liaise and coordinate with other CAN DO/VCC members, the National Disaster Management Office, Vanuatu Church Partnership program and other key partners to lead a Combined Church Approach to implementation.


Key deliverables of the position during 2021-22 period:

  • Finalise the VCC SOP via church coordination, and organise a response simulation exercise

  • Annual reporting for 2021

  • Develop 2022 Work Plan

  • Engage the project team and core partners in the Disaster READY Re-design process (led by AHP and Shared Services, Save the Children)

Essential Selection Criteria

► Core values align with VCC and AfP policies – the selected candidate will be asked to provide a national police check, referees, and sign a code of conduct and safeguarding policies

► A degree in a relevant field and or at least 5 years’ experience in Disaster Risk Reduction or general community development projects

► Experience managing a disaster response highly desired

► Experience or qualification in project and team management

► Report writing skills (English)

► An understanding of Monitoring and Evaluation processes.

► Demonstrated ability to respond to challenges and multiple project needs

► Time management skills

► Experience with cash handling in the field

► Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
