The Position

The role of the Climate Change and DRR Adviser is to input into strategic program development and drive program quality across Save the Children Vanuatu’s climate change and DRR portfolio.


The Climate Change and DRR Adviser will work closely with the extended SMT in country and counterparts within the Save the Children movement across the region and globally to ensure the development and delivery of a high-quality programs. A priority for the Climate Change and DRR Adviser will be to work collaboratively with the Government of Vanuatu and other relevant regional and in-country stakeholders to ensure program design and delivery aligns with government priorities, policies and standards, complies with regional frameworks and complements existing programs and initiatives.


Through this role Save the Children Vanuatu aims to support a step up in Climate Change programming in 2020 and beyond. By doing this we aim to make children safer and more able to adapt to the impacts of climate change in their communities as a cornerstone of their ability to fulfil their rights.


Essential Selection Criteria

► Tertiary qualification/s in Climate Change and International Development and/or relevant disciplines

► Significant direct experience of implementing climate change programs for an international organisations

► Strong Training of Trainers skills and an proven experience training and supporting field officers deliver effective community mobilisation relating to climate change/DRR programs

► Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesise and process information on development and climate change issues

► Demonstrated time management, administrative, and organisational skills

► Excellent representational, advocacy and diplomatic skills to operate effectively within Save the Children and externally

► Highly developed communication skills, written and verbal, and the ability to present information clearly and effectively to a wide range of internal and external audiences, including report writing skills

► Experience in integrating climate change into ongoing developmental programs, strategies, and policies

► Successful experience in developing relationships with donors and technical partners


Desirable Criteria

► Experience in developing concept notes and proposal for the Green Climate Fund or other climate financing institutions

► Experience in child-centred approaches to climate change and DRR

► Experience in developing and implementing climate change advocacy strategies

► Experience working in the Pacific

► Knowledge of Bislama and/or French
