The Organisation

The University of the South Pacific is one of only two universities of its type in the world. The Position

The Accountant will be responsible for the organizational performance of the Finance Office, its accounting systems and processes and for maintaining financial control over related operations. Ensuring and maintaining compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, and meet all key financial University deadlines and requirements in terms of planning and reporting

Essential Selection Criteria

► Completed Tertiary Education

► Bachelors Degree in Accounting/ Finance Management

► 5 years’ experience in a similar job

► Qualified accountant with high level of expertise gained from work experience, training or professional accreditation

► Strong computer skills including practical knowledge in MYOB, Excel spreadsheet, and other computerized accounting systems, including banner

► Supervisory skills

► Experience in multi-tasking and working with strict deadlines

► Good interpersonal skills

► A strong customer service orientation

► Demonstrated competency and use of professional judgement in preparing financial reports, including interpretation and application of accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles

► Evidence of ability to proactively identify control or process deficiencies, analyze and recommend improvement options, and drive resolutions

► Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be sensitive to the different requirements of a very diverse community

► Self-motivated and have strong analytical skills

Desirable Selection Criteria

► Postgraduate Degree or Masters in Accounting

► Experience in an educational institute

► Experience working in the South Pacific

► Membership of a professional accountancy body

► A demonstrated ability to plan and implement projects
