The Organisation

The Roads for Development Phase 2 (R4D2) is an AUD12 million, three-year road development program funded by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to support the Public Works Department (PWD) in Vanuatu under the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Utilities (MIPU). Its long-term objective is that “People in Vanuatu benefit from a well-maintained, affordable and integrated road network.” Contributing to this long-term goal is the End of Program Outcome: “MIPU PWD manages the road network of Vanuatu more effectively and efficiently resulting in sustainable improved connectivity.”

The Position

Under the direction of the GESI Adviser (remote in Australia) the GESI Officer will provide support to the R4D2 Team and PWD in managing the implementation of the R4D2 GESI Plan and to respond to emerging GESI-related opportunities. Full-time 12 months (with performance-based extension option)

Essential Selection Criteria

► Relevant qualifications or equivalent experience relating to gender and / or social development in Vanuatu

► Demonstrated experience in analysis and reporting

► Experience in the establishment of GESI plans

► Demonstrated understanding of the social, cultural, political and institutional factors affecting development in Vanuatu

► Motivated and able to work independently, while adhering to the requirements of the Terms of Reference

Desirable Selection Criteria

► Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

► Fluent in Bislama and English

► Experience in Roads and Transport sectors

► Experience working on Australian Aid-funded projects
